What NOT to use to clean your furniture

The second most asked question that we hear from our customers is “What should I not be using on my furniture”? Our simple answer is “Don’t use any product in an aerosol can”. Typically aerosol furniture cleaners and or polishes contain contaminates such as silicone and wax, among others which may or may not be disclosed on the label. Although convenient, aerosols are the worst offenders in introducing contaminants onto furniture. Their chemical properties can attack lacquer finishes causing them to degrade. In addition, the presence of such contaminates makes a potential refinishing job extremely difficult, as the contaminates can penetrate the pores of the wood itself. The result can cause a fresh lacquer finish to react unfavorably.
